The 'Edible Playgrounds' Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2008

Dorset Cereals, makers of fine muesli and breakfast cereals, commissioned this garden to promote their schools gardening campaign. The garden was built by Marshall-James Garden Development and won a Gold Medal and the award for Best Courtyard Garden. It demonstrated how even in a space just 5 x 4 metres it is possible to grow a substantial range of fruit and vegetables. The egg-heads were decorated and grown by children from the primary school in my home village of Cerne Abbas; they were delighted when Joe Swift homed in on the eggs on TV.

The BBC presenters gave it extensive coverage and the Queen, among many others, took an interest in the garden. After the show, the garden was given by Dorset Cereals to a primary school in Bridport and was featured on Radio 4's 'You and Yours'.
