The 'Edible Playground' Garden, RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2008
To further promote Dorset Cereals' school gardening campaign, I was asked to design a full-size show garden for the Hampton Court Flower Show. Built by Goddard Landscapes on a 1500 square metre plot, it allowed space to demonstrate how a full-size productive school garden, complete with gardening club shed, composting facilities, wormery, herb garden and raised beds, could be designed to make a really attractive area for learning.
The garden proved highly popular with visiting children and adults alike and won a Gold Medal and the Tudor Rose Award for 'Best Overall Garden in Show'. It was subsequently transported and rebuilt at a large primary school in Weymouth, where it provided the starting point for a dynamic new school gardening club.
