How I Work
I have always had a passion for gardens and count myself fortunate to have a career doing what I love - making gardens that give pleasure to those who use them.
After working as a garden designer for 16 years in Dorset, I moved with my family in 2010 to Blockley in the North Cotswolds, where I now work from my studio at the Old Post Office. I am, however, happy to travel wherever the work may take me.
I aim to offer a friendly but efficient service to anyone seeking to create a new garden or improve an existing one, no matter what the size. I can provide full structural plans and detailed planting designs for the whole or just part of a client's garden. I am also able to offer a supervised garden construction service, using local landscape contractors, and can supply all plants and provide a planting service, if required.
As every garden varies, I always like to visit before quoting for any sort of work. This is an opportunity to establish the exact requirements you may have and to discuss ideas. Within reasonable distance of Blockley I make no charge for this visit; otherwise it is by arrangement.
I prefer to give clients a fixed price quotation for any work, as it is less worrying than an open-ended hourly rate. The price quoted will include for carrying out my own measured survey of the garden and for any subsequent visits necessary, as well as printing costs. I generally allow up to a month between the initial meeting and the presentation of the design proposals. I like to deliver them in person, talk through my suggestions in detail and answer any immediate questions. In the light of this discussion, or after further deliberation by the client, I am always happy to make any necessary alterations in order to produce a final set of plans which everyone is happy with. I will then invoice for the design.
